Interstate drug smuggling gang busted in Jammu and Kashmir, three arrested

Police have arrested three people while busting an inter-state drug smuggling gang in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police gave this information on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said that after receiving credible information about a consignment of narcotics being taken from Delhi to Srinagar, police set up several checkpoints along the route in Anantnag. The spokesperson said that during the investigation, a vehicle was stopped in Doonipora Bijbehara, in which three persons were traveling.

The accused have been identified as Monty Singh, resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Ashish Bardhwaj and Rahul, residents of Chhatarpur, New Delhi. He said that during the search of the vehicle, 413 bottles of the drug ‘Codeine Phosphate’ kept hidden in the doors of the car were recovered.

The spokesperson said that all three accused have been arrested. He said that upon further investigation in the case, it was found that this consignment of drugs was to be delivered to Sopore and Srinagar. Taking prompt action, raids were conducted at several places and a local smuggler from Sopore was detained for questioning.

The spokesperson said that in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi, a warehouse was raided in Sector 135 of Noida, where a huge quantity of drugs were recovered. He said that the main accused of this gang, Sachin Rana and Arun Rana, residents of Faridabad, have been identified and efforts are on to nab them.
