Ahead of the auspicious Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a two-day holiday on July 7 and 8 for the event, which is a special occasion after 53 years when 'Nabajaubana Darshan', 'Netra Utsav' and 'Rath Yatra' are falling on the same day. CM Majhi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting and reviewed the preparations made for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, Subhadra and Balram. The meeting was attended by both deputy chief ministers, KV Singh Deo and Parvati Parida, as well as several ministers and senior officials. The meeting was the final coordination meeting for the smooth conduct of the Rath Yatra.

The festival was last celebrated in 1971

Majhi highlighted the significance of the two-day festival which was last celebrated 53 years ago in 1971. CM Majhi stressed on the blessings and auspicious timing of the event coinciding with the beginning of the tenure of the new BJP government in the state. “Since the Rath Yatra will be held for two days, I direct the concerned officials to declare these days as public holidays,” Majhi said. He urged all officials to ensure smooth implementation of the festival to maintain the glory of Puri and Odisha.

President Murmu will join the Rath Yatra

The Chief Minister also informed that President Draupadi Murmu will attend the Rath Yatra celebrations. Giving more details, CM Majhi said that the President is likely to reach Puri on the evening of July 6 and participate in the celebrations and chariot pulling on July 7. CM Majhi also called for collective cooperation from all stakeholders for the timely rituals and successful completion of 'Rath Yatra', 'Nabajaubana Darshan' and 'Netra Utsav'.
