Whereas this time Jammu and Kashmir is a union territory. This time in the assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) led by MP Engineer Rashid has also decided to enter the electoral fray. After this announcement of Engineer Rashid, the political temperature in the state has become very high.

Speculations about victory and defeat have intensified in political circles. According to a report published in the Business Standard newspaper, Awami Ittehad Party led by Engineer Rashid has announced to contest elections on all 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Announcing this, AIP general secretary Prince Parvez said that for the first time we are going to contest elections on all seats in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “Our aim is to achieve a big victory in this wave of change against traditional politics.” Prince Parvez claimed that “the people of Jammu and Kashmir have no other option except AIP.”

After Engineer Rashid’s victory from Baramulla seat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, AIP is moving towards reorganization. Earlier, his party Awami Ittehad Party had announced its candidates for 9 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir on 22 August. In the first list released by AIP, the names of candidates for Devsar Kulgam, Dooru Anantnag, Anantnag West, Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Shopian Zainapora, DH Pora Kulgam and Anantnag assembly seats have been finalized. Currently, AIP chief Engineer Abdul Rashid is lodged in Tihar Jail under UAPA. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he surprised everyone by defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Sajjad Lone from Baramulla seat.
