Jairam Ramesh raised questions on the silence of Telugu Desam Party in the all-party meeting

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday claimed that in the all-party meeting held ahead of the Parliament session, the Janata Dal (United) and the YSR Congress demanded special status for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh respectively, but strangely the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) remained silent on the issue.

Ramesh said in a post on Instagram, “In the all-party meeting of the leaders of the House today chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the JD (U) leader demanded special state status for Bihar. The YSRCP leader demanded special state status for Andhra Pradesh. Strangely, the TDP leader remained silent on this issue. ” This social media post of Ramesh came when the meeting was going on.

In another post, the Congress leader said, “How the political atmosphere has changed! At the all-party meeting of the leaders of the House, the BJD leader reminded Defence Minister and BJP President JP Nadda that the BJP's manifesto for the 2014 assembly elections in Odisha had promised special category status to the state.”

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sasmit Patra told reporters that his party has demanded special status for Odisha. JD(U), a key ally of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), recently passed a resolution demanding special status for Bihar. Andhra Pradesh leaders have been demanding special status for the state for a long time. This demand has once again gained momentum after the Lok Sabha elections.
