The meeting took place on Trump’s first day in office and just hours after Rubio was sworn in as America’s top diplomat. This makes it clear that ‘Quad’ will remain a priority for Trump. The Foreign Minister also met America’s new Security Advisor Michael Walz. Foreign Minister Jaishankar has also posted pictures related to the meeting with both of them on Instagram.
Let us tell you that The Quad was established in 2007 to bring together countries that had worked together in response to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Its members emphasize its diplomatic nature and broad focus on regional issues, including infrastructure, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, climate change and maritime security. Even though security is a part of it, the ‘Quad’ is a key component of the US strategy to counter China’s growing assertiveness and vast territorial claims in the region, which includes the strategically important South China Sea and the democratically self-ruled island of Taiwan .
