In the letter, instructions have been given to give admission to all non-Muslim students studying in government-funded madrasas in Basic Education Council schools to provide formal education. In the letter issued on June 26, it was also said that all the children studying in such madrasas of the state, which are not recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Council, should also be given admission in council schools.

The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind has demanded the withdrawal of the UP government's recent order directing that all students studying in unrecognised madrassas and non-Muslim students studying in government-aided madrassas should be shifted to government schools. The Muslim organisation termed the order as “unconstitutional”. In an order issued to all district magistrates in the state on June 26, the then chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Durga Shankar Mishra, cited a June 7 letter from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

The letter has directed to admit all non-Muslim students studying in government-funded madrasas in Basic Education Council schools to provide formal education. The letter issued on June 26 also said that all the children studying in such madrasas in the state, which are not recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Council, should also be given admission in council schools. It said that committees should be formed at the district level by the District Magistrates to implement the entire process. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind has termed the government order as “unconstitutional” and an action violating the rights of minorities and has demanded its withdrawal.

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, the largest social organization of Muslims in the country, has called this order of the government unconstitutional and an action violating the rights of minorities and has demanded its withdrawal. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, President of Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Council, has also reacted to this and said that no student is forced to study in a madrasa. He said that all the non-Muslim students studying in madrasas are studying with the consent of their parents. In such a situation, forcibly enrolling them or students of unrecognized madrasas in council schools is beyond comprehension.
