The decision to organize a special cabinet meeting came two days after Abdullah on Saturday proposed a double approach to revive the Jammu and Kashmir tourist attack affected by the Pahalgam terror attack. He urged the Center to hold public undertakings to hold meetings in Kashmir and to order the Parliamentary Committee meetings there.

The Jammu and Kashmir government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a special cabinet meeting in Pahalgam today to revive tourism after the death of 26 civilians in a horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first time a cabinet meeting is being held outside the traditional summer capital Srinagar or Winter capital Jammu during the tenure of this government.

Although the specific agenda of the meeting has been kept secret so far, the authorities have emphasized that its primary importance is to give a symbolic message to anti-national and anti-social elements that there is no place for violence in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister believes that these concrete efforts of the government will reduce the fear of the public to a great extent, a new sense of security and trust will be created and eventually pave the way for the revival of tourism in the Kashmir Valley, which will provide much awaited economic relief and restore general conditions.

In a 26-minute speech during that session, Omar Abdullah underlined his commitment to theoretical rule and said that he would not use the terrorist attack as an opportunity to pressurize the state status of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed his hatred towards “cheap politics”. Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), was seen playing golf in the beautiful Pahalgam golf course today. He said that although the attack has created an atmosphere of fear, the government has taken some steps to improve the security situation in the valley.
