Jaspreet Bumrah, the leader of India’s fast bowling attack, veteran all -rounder Ravindra Jadeja and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on Friday got a place in the International Cricket Council (ICC )’s best Test team for 2024. Four England players are also part of this team while Pat Cummins of Australia have been made the captain. The team includes two New Zealand players including veteran batsman Kane Williamson.
Cummins is the only Australian cricketer to make it to this All Star team of ICC. Bumrah performed brilliantly in 2024 and dominated each team and each batsman whom he bowled. He became the first bowler in the world to take at least 200 wickets in Test cricket at least 200 wickets and wrote his name in history. Bumrah took 71 wickets at an average of 14.92 in 2024 and was the highest bowler in Test cricket a year.
He took 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia but India lost 1-3 in a five-match series. Bumrah made a brilliant start of the year and took 19 wickets in four matches against England, including nine wickets in the match in Visakhapattam. He took 11 wickets in two matches against Bangladesh.
Bumrah could take only three wickets at the home ground against New Zealand and India faced a clean sweep 0-3. The fast bowler, however, performed brilliantly against Australia. Jadeja took 527 runs in 2024 at an average of 29.27 and also took 48 wickets at an effective average of 24.29. Jaiswal established himself as the top Test opener and performed brilliantly among the Indian batsmen in 2024.
After a challenging series in South Africa, he made a brilliant comeback in the domestic series against England and scored 712 runs. He dominated the series against England, scoring two double centuries and three half -centuries. The left -handed batsman scored three half -centuries in four innings in the domestic series against Bangladesh. India suffered a bad defeat in the domestic series against New Zealand but was among the players who performed effectively.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jaiswal played an important role in India’s major victory by scoring 161 runs in the second innings after failing to open an account in the first innings in Perth. He was India’s top scorer in the series with 391 runs. Jaisal scored a total of 1478 runs in the calendar year at an effective average of 54.74. More runs than him could score only Joe Root of England (1556 runs in 2024 at an average of 55.57). Root has also got a place in the All Star team of the ICC.
Williamson also scored 1013 runs in 2024 at a brilliant average of 59.58, making him sixth in the list of most runs scored in the year. Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis also made 1049 runs in 2024 with a great average of 74.92 and made it to the team. Australia, led by Cummins, won the series against West Indies, New Zealand and India. In addition to taking 37 wickets at an average of 24.02 in 2024, he also scored 306 runs at an average of 23.53.
