Siddaramaiah said that we will bring this law as soon as possible to honor the dreams of Rohit, Payal, Darshan and countless others, who deserved respect. Like Dr. BR Ambedkar, it will be a step towards realizing the dream of compassionate India. The Congress had promised that if she comes to power at the Center, it would implement the Rohit Vemula Act at the national level. The proposed law aims to address caste and communal atrocities in the premises, ensuring that any student of the socio-economic-deprived background does not have to bear discrimination like discrimination against Rohit Vemula.
In his letter to Siddaramaiah, Rahul Gandhi cited Dr. BR Ambedkar’s legacy to highlight the permanent problem of caste prejudice in Indian educational institutions. He shared the insight by the recent conversations with students and teachers of Dalit, tribal and other backward classes (OBC) communities, who spoke of facing caste-based discrimination in colleges and universities.
