The Government of Karnataka today presented the much awaited report of the Socio-Economic Survey during the State Cabinet meeting, which is widely known as caste census. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the report had been formally introduced, he said that it included several recommendations, which would require further investigation. He told reporters that it was introduced today. There are some recommendations in it. Some ministers have said that they need to examine those recommendations. After reviewing them, we will discuss this in the cabinet meeting next Thursday and decide.

A special meeting of the cabinet has been scheduled on 17 April to discuss the detailed subject matter of the report. Kannada and Culture Minister Shivraj Tangdagi confirmed the meeting and said that the state government would study the survey deeply before taking any decision on its implementation. Minister Tangdagi said that the caste census was originally done in 2015 as part of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission under the supervision of the then officer H Kantraj. However, the final report was presented under the leadership of the current commission chairman Jayaprakash Hegde. The presentation was performed in two different boxes that included data and analysis in different formats.

He said that the box one includes the entire report of the 2015 caste survey, one section each of caste population data, the main features of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, eight segments that describe the key features of other castes and communities, two CDs of constituency-wise caste data and an analytical report based on 2015 data published in 2024.
