The Karnataka Police has recovered about a full stolen gold worth about Rs 13 crore, exposing a high-profile SBI Bank theft case in Davangere. The robbery in October 2024 included the theft of gold jewelery pledged weighing about 17.7 kg. After a five -month -long investigation by the Davangere District Police, six accused have been arrested and the stolen property has been ascertained. On October 28, 2024, after a two -day weekend, officials of SBI Bank branch were shocked to see that one of his strong room lockers was broken with gas cutters. The thieves tried to enter the iron grill from the window and tried to enter inside, looted the locker and escaped for the mortgaged gold.

To further mislead investigators, he captured the DVR of the bank with CCTV footage and scattered chilli powder at the crime site to obstruct forensic analysis. The police registered an FIR at Nyamati police station under various sections of BNS, 2023. Top officials including IGP, SP and forensic teams immediately assessed the situation, ASP Channagiri Sub-Division, Sam Varghese, IPS led the investigation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant, IPS.

Despite the careful plan of the thieves, investigators discovered the link associated with the previous bank theft efforts, including SBI Bank robbery attempts in Holehnur, Bhadravati (August 2024). Technical evidence pointed to the infamous Kakrala gang of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, which was involved in similar crimes in South India. Between November 2024 and February 2025, police teams conducted high -risk operations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. He arrested five members of the Kakrala gang, Guddu Kalia, Aslam alias Tantun, Hazrat Ali, Kamaruddin alias Sareli Babu and Babu Sahn.
