During the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr in many parts of Karnataka, the Waqf Amendment Bill became the focal point, in which devotees, including Minister Rahim Khan, tied a black band, offering special prayers to oppose the Center’s move. There were also reports of protests in Bidar, Mandya and Belagavi, where the protesters expressed dissatisfaction against the bill in a peaceful manner. In Bidar, Minister of Sports and Youth Empowerment Department Khan along with his supporters tied a black band and reached the mosque and offered prayers at Idgah Maidan.
His supporters also participated in the protest demanding withdrawal of the amendment. Nahim and his supporters, Chairman of the Mandya Urban Development Authority, wore black straps during the prayer. Talking to reporters, he called it a silent opposition against the Waqf Amendment Bill. Similar protests were seen in Belagavi, where members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) attended the namaz wearing black straps. In addition to opposing the bill, some protesters in Kittur demanded the release of SDPI National President MK Faizi, who was arrested earlier this month in a money laundering case related to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED alleged that there was a biological relationship between SDPI and PFI.
