The BJP shared pictures of Manjit Mishra, the main accused of alleged gang rape of a law student in Kolkata, claimed that it was seen with top leaders of the Trinamool Congress. However, the Trinamool Congress, while distance from Mishra, said that the pictures posted by the BJP are of social programs. Three people were arrested for raping a law student in the campus of South Calcutta Law College, including alumni and General Secretary of South Kolkata district of Trinamool Congress Students Council.

Malaviya shared pictures of Mishra with Abhishek Banerjee, Minister of State Chandima Bhattacharya and Councilor Kajri Banerjee. He said that the Trinamool Congress is the party of rapists and the protector of rapists. We will not let political power suppress this crime. We will not allow Mamata Banerjee’s rule to suppress the voice of justice. The BJP is standing firmly with the woman. We will continue to fight continuously till we get justice.

In response, Trinamool Congress leader Trinankur Bhattacharya admitted that the party did not guess that Mishra would be involved in such heinous crime. However, Bhattacharya, president of the Trinamool Students Council (TMCP), said that the party had no connection with the accused. He said in a press conference that we believe that it was our fault that we could not guess that the student leader we had included in our early student life would commit such a crime. He was not in any main position in the student wing.
