Landing gear of Saudi plane catches fire while landing at Peshawar airport

A Saudi Airlines plane coming from Riyadh caught fire while landing at Peshawar airport in Pakistan on Thursday, following which all 276 passengers and 21 crew members on board were immediately evacuated safely.

The plane caught fire while landing at Peshawar's Bacha Khan International Airport, the Dawn newspaper quoted the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as saying. According to CAA spokesman Saifullah, air traffic controllers noticed smoke and sparks coming out of the plane's left landing gear while it was landing and alerted the pilot.

They also informed the airport's fire and rescue services. The statement said that CAA fire vehicles reached the spot and were successful in extinguishing the fire in the landing gear.

Saifullah said, the firefighters acted in time and immediately controlled the fire in the landing gear, saving the plane from a major accident. He said all 276 passengers and 21 crew members were evacuated safely with the help of a special inflatable slide. According to Peshawar airport officials, the airport is operational and all flights will continue as per their scheduled time.
