Madhya Pradesh ATS arrested a person who was planning to attack security forces

The Madhya Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested a man who was allegedly planning an attack on security forces and had even carried out a recce, officials said.

He said that the arrested person was planning to attack as a 'lone wolf'. During a 'lone wolf' attack, there is only one attacker and he carries out his plans alone.

Faizan Shaikh (34), a mechanic by profession, was influenced by the ideologies of the Indian Mujahideen and the Islamic State (IS), officials said. He was arrested following a raid at Kanjar Mohalla-Saluja Colony in the communally sensitive Khandwa city, they said.

Madhya Pradesh ATS Inspector General Ashish told reporters that preliminary investigation has revealed that Sheikh wanted to come into the limelight by attacking the security personnel alone and for this he had also done proper recce.

Inspector General of Police Ashish said that four mobile phones, a pistol, cartridges and literature and videos of various terrorist organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Indian Mujahideen and IS were recovered from Sheikh.

He said that a case has been registered against him under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Police said that ATS is also questioning some other people associated with Sheikh in Khandwa.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated the police on the arrest of Sheikh and said the state government has approached central agencies to share information about the network of the accused.

“We will not tolerate any such activities in Madhya Pradesh… We have succeeded in arresting a dreaded terrorist and have also come to know about his conspiracies. I am confident that the police action will break the back of their network,” Yadav told reporters in Chhindwara.
