Police in Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly murdering a woman who was allegedly having an extramarital affair with the woman, a police official said.

An official of the Shil-Daigar police station said that the accused, a resident of Mumbra area, and the 32-year-old woman were in a love relationship for a long time and they often quarreled over some issues. He said that the accused was married while the woman was unmarried.

The two went to a lodge in Mumbra on Tuesday where they had a fight following which the man allegedly strangled the woman to death, the official said. After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and found the woman dead on the bed, he said.

The police sent the body for post-mortem and arrested the accused in the wee hours of Wednesday, he said. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 103 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), the official said.
