Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday accused those in power in New Delhi of weakening the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. He said his legacy is under threat from the people in power in Delhi and the ideologies and institutions that nurture them. In her message read out at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Sonia Gandhi lashed out at the BJP and the RSS and called for fighting the forces whom she claimed had created the toxic environment which led to the death of Mahatma Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi said that this was a transformative milestone in the history of our country. Today, we rededicate ourselves to preserving, protecting and promoting the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. He has been and will remain our main source of inspiration. He said that it was he who prepared and guided all our notable leaders of that generation. His legacy is under threat from those in power in New Delhi and the ideologies and institutions that nurture them.
Gandhi said that these organizations never fought for our freedom. He bitterly opposed Mahatma Gandhi. He created a toxic environment which led to his murder. They glorify his murderers. The former Congress president alleged that Gandhian institutions were being attacked at various places across the country and said it was appropriate that the meeting be called a ‘Neo Satyagraha meeting’. He said that it is now our sacred duty to renew our resolve to confront these forces with full force and unwavering determination.
