MLA Mahendra Yadav was born on 5 May 1963 in New Delhi. His father’s name is Mewa Ram Yadav. Mahendra Yadav has passed 10th class from CBSE board in 1980. He is also an active social worker. He is a businessman and retailer and supplier of construction materials. Mahendra Yadav is married to Raj Yadav and has three daughters. His wife Raj is self-employed. He is a resident of Hastsal village in Uttam Nagar area of ​​New Delhi.

AAP leader Mahinder Yadav was earlier in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was a councilor from Ward No. 124 of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from April 2012 to December 2013. He was the Chairman of the Sports and Promotion Committee in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) between 2012 and 2013. In 2012, Yadav joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In the December 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, Yadav contested from the Vikaspuri assembly constituency on an AAP ticket.
Then he got 62,032 votes and defeated his nearest rival Krishna Gehlot of BJP by 405 votes. This was the second lowest victory margin in the elections. He also defeated sitting Indian National Congress MLA Nand Kishore, who finished third in the contest. Thus he was a member of the Fifth Legislative Assembly of Delhi between December 2013 and January 2015. Yadav also won the Vikaspuri seat in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections. He had secured 1,32,437 votes and defeated his nearest rival Sanjay Singh of BJP by a margin of 77,665 votes. This was the largest margin of victory in the election.
