Beijing. China paid tribute to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, saying he made a “positive contribution” to the development of relations between the two countries during his tenure. It said that during his tenure, important agreements were signed between the two countries to resolve the complex border issue. Responding to a question on Singh’s legacy in improving ties between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press conference here said he was a senior Indian politician and renowned economist.
He had made positive contributions to the development of India-China relations. Mao said that when Singh was prime minister, China and India declared a strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity and reached an agreement on political parameters and guiding principles for the resolution of the India-China border issue. He said China deeply mourns Singh’s death and expresses its condolences to the Government of India, the Indian people and Singh’s family. Singh died on Thursday night at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
