Srinagar . Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said his contribution to the country, his values of inclusivity and his humility and honesty will continue to inspire generations to come. Mufti and her party members paid floral tributes to the former prime minister at the PDP headquarters here and a condolence meeting was also held in his memory. Mufti described Singh as the architect of modern India’s economic transformation and recalled his visionary leadership during the liberalisation, privatization and globalization reforms that reshaped India in the early 1990s.
“Singh ushered India into a new era and set the stage for development and prosperity,” he said. From delivering food to the doorsteps of the poorest of the poor through schemes like NREGA and the Food Security Act, to the historic nuclear deal and the introduction of Aadhaar, his contribution has improved the lives of every Indian.” Mufti said when in 2002 When PDP-Congress were negotiating to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, Sonia Gandhi had sent her to Kashmir and then she met her for the first time.
He said, “I have never seen such a humble and kind hearted person in my life. Singh had an important role in coalition building and the agenda of the coalition at that time.” The PDP president praised Singh’s skill in taking the country forward amid complex challenges and his unprecedented public apology as Prime Minister for the anti-Sikh riots. Recalling that this shows his humility. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said what she liked most about Singh was that he was a man of few words but a man of action.
