Magnus Carlson, the best player in the chess world and also known as ‘Mozart of Chase’, has won the Norway Chess tournament 2025. D Gukesh finished third after losing to American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana in the final round. In the 10th round, Carlson won the tournament with 16 points by drawing the main game against Arjun Arigasi of India.
However, D Gukesh defeated Magnus Carlson in the sixth round. In the sixth round of Norway Chess 2025, Gukesh defeated Magakes for the first time in classical chess, when Magnus lost a night in the final round. After this defeat, Magnus punched the table, however, he later apologized to Gukesh.
Magnus Carlson, a Norway -resident, is a five -time World Chess Champion, a five -time world rapid champion and the eight -time World Blitz Champion. Since 2011, he has topped the FIDE World Ranking. And his highest rating score is the highest in 2882 history. Recently, he defeated India’s current world champion D Gukesh in the final round of Freestyle Chase Grand Slam Tour 2025.
Swen Magnus ON Carlson was born on 30 November 1990 in Tonsberg, Norway. His father Heinrich Albert Carlson was an IT advisor and mother Signun ON was a chemical engineer who died in 2024. Magnus has three sisters and he said that his initial inspiration was a desire to defeat his elder sister in chess. His family spent a year in Espu in Finland and then in Brussels in Belgium, followed by Norway in 1998 where he settled in Baram’s Lomadalen and later in Hasalam.
Magnus has defeated Vishwanathan Anand
Magnus defeated Vishwanathan Anand in 2013 to win the title of World Chess Champion, which was also retained in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021. In 2014, he became the only player to hold all three world titles in classical, rapid and blitz. In 2023, he won the FIDE World Cup, which was another major achievement of his career.
