Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand and Sri Lanka from April 3 to 6. During his visit, he will attend the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal for multi-regional technical and economic cooperation) in Bangkok on 4 April. But just before PM Modi’s visit, Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has been scared due to the tremors of the earthquake. Residents in Thailand’s capital Bangkok felt a fast and long earthquake, causing buildings and evacuating shops and offices. GFZ of Germany for geology, citing preliminary reports, stated that the 7.3 magnitude earthquake was in neighboring Myanmar. It was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 mi). Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the intensity of the earthquake was 7.7.

Let us tell you that this summit organized by Thailand will be a face-to-face meeting of BIMSTEC leaders after the 2018 summit in Kathmandu, Nepal. This year Bimstech is the subject of rich, flexible and open. The aim of the summit is to discuss strategies to increase regional cooperation. Leaders are expected to consult the institutional structure, capacity building, safety cooperation, trade and investment facility as well as marine and digital connectivity. The statement said that India is actively working towards promoting cooperation in areas such as energy, climate security and skill development within the BIMSTEC structure.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet his Thai equivalent Partangatarn Shinavatra to discuss bilateral relations before the summit on 3 April.
