Three people were injured in a fire in a gas pipeline on Sunday in Andheri area of Mumbai. An official gave this information. The official said two vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
Metropolitan Gas Limited (MGL) later stated in a statement that the pipeline ‘was damaged due to uncontrolled excavation from JCB. An official of the fire department had stated during the day that a fire broke out late Saturday at 12.35 pm on Saturday after leakage from the pipeline of the Metropolitan Gas Limited, which passed through the road in the Sher-e-Punjab Society near a gurdwara in Taxila in Andheri (East) area.
He told that this was the fire of ‘Level One’, which engulfed two vehicles passing by. The official said the two -wheeler riders Arvind Kumar Kaithal (21), 30 to 40 percent, another bike rider Aman Harishankar Saroj (22) got 40 to 50 percent and auto rickshaw driver Suresh Kailas Gupta (52) was scorched by 20 percent.
He said that the water tanker, fire train etc. were immediately sent to the spot and the fire was controlled at 1.34 pm. The official said that the three persons were admitted to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Center in Jogeshwari for treatment.
He said that Kaithal and Saroj, however, were discharged from the hospital by giving first aid. MGL said in a statement that the gas pipeline was damaged due to JCB’s influence during unauthorized and uncontrolled excavations last (Saturday) night, causing a fire.
The emergency of the fire department and MGL reached the spot and extinguished the fire. According to the statement, gas supply was stopped for repairing the pipeline.
“Unfortunately, three people were injured in the incident and were rushed to the hospital,” the statement said. According to the statement, the situation is under control in collaboration with the Mumbai Fire Department and the improvement work is in progress.
The statement said that the concerned officials, including the police, are investigating the incident to locate the people and agencies responsible for this unfortunate incident. According to the statement, to avoid such incidents, MGL is continuously coordinating with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and is discussing with senior corporation officials.
