Mumbai Police officials reached his house on Monday after the controversy over the jokes of comedian Kunal Kamra on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Kamra was called to Khar police station for questioning in connection with his controversial jokes at the Habitat Center in Mumbai, but he did not appear. The police had earlier sent summons to Kamra twice after registering an FIR on March 24, based on the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Three separate cases have been registered against Kamra at Khar police station. According to the Mumbai Police, a complaint was lodged by the Mayor of Jalgaon city, while the other two complaints were lodged by a hotelier and a businessman in Nashik.

Immediately after the incident, Kamra said that he would not apologize for his comments about Shinde and criticized the resolve at the place where his comedy show was recorded. Kamra wrote in a statement, I will not apologize … I am not afraid of this crowd and I will not wait for this incident to calm down by hiding under my bed.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail to Kamra in connection with the FIR. Justice Sundar Mohan said that the bail has been given with conditions and will remain in effect till 7 April. Kamra approached the court for transit anticipatory bail. He cited several threats received after his recent sarcastic comments.
