New Delhi. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi on Sunday began his five-day visit to Bangladesh aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation in the maritime sector. Tripathi's visit comes more than a week after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India during which the two sides resolved to expand overall defence and strategic ties. This is Admiral Tripathi's first official foreign visit after taking over the command of the Navy two months ago.

The Navy Chief is scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions with his Bangladeshi counterpart Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and other top officials of the Bangladesh Army, including the Army Chief and the Air Force Chief. Admiral Tripathi will also review the passing-out parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) in Chittagong on July 4. As per the schedule, the Navy Chief will visit some key defence establishments, including addressing the National Defence College of Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Indian Navy said in a statement, “The aim of the visit is to strengthen bilateral defence relations between India and Bangladesh and explore new avenues of naval cooperation.
