Patil said that Pawar Saheb gave me many opportunities. I was given a seven -year term. After all, the party should give a chance to new faces. I will request Sharad Pawar in front of all of you- finally, the party is of Pawar Saheb. They should take appropriate decisions on this. We still have to travel a long way.

Senior NCP leader (Sharad Chandra Pawar) Jayant Patil on Monday expressed his desire to resign from the post of Maharashtra state president, saying that the time has come that the party would give new faces a chance. Patil was speaking at an event organized on the occasion of the 26th Foundation Day of NCP (SP) in Pune, where party chief Sharad Pawar and other senior leaders were present on the stage.

His comment was immediately reacted by the party workers present in the audience and urged him to stay there. Sharad Pawar, sitting on the stage, kept listening without any response, while many supporters expressed their support for Patil. Patil, who has been holding the position of head of the state unit since 2018, is considered close to Pawar and he has played an important role in keeping the party united, especially after partition in NCP. His comment comes at a time when there is a fresh speculation about the possible merger of two groups of the Nationalist Congress Party.

The comment came after the recent comments of Sharad Pawar’s grandson Rohit Pawar, who said during the party’s 25th foundation day that although he had no ambition to lead the party, he is ready to accept any responsibility given by the leadership. Patil did not formally announce the resignation, but his words are seen as an important sign of the party’s Maharashtra leadership.
