Bangladesh used to be the most trusted colleague and partner of India. Not any more. The character of this relationship has changed after Sheikh Hasina’s coup. The interim government of Bangladesh is engaged in strengthening relations with opponents. He has tried his best to overcome himself from India. There is an attack on Hindus and temples in Bangladesh, the extradition of Sheikh Hasina or the border dispute has been hot on several occasions between the two countries. Against this, Bangladesh and Pakistan are coming closer to Bangladesh and Pakistan. Military agreements were signed between them. There is talk of ignoring the excesses of 1971. The independence of Bangladesh is being rejected. India’s interests are weakening in this. In this episode, Bangladesh has extended his hand towards another rivalry of India. The aircraft of Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladeshi Interim Government, landed in Henan, China on 26 March. On 27 March, he met Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Yunus also said that China’s development is inspiring for Bangladesh. In a common statement of the two countries, he invited Chinese companies for the Teesta Project in Bangladesh. Remember that in June last year, former PM Sheikh Hasina went to China and returned to Bangladesh, leaving the tour incomplete. She had said that she wants the project to be completed by India. Now the situation is different, since Hasina’s departure, India and Bangladesh’s relations have not been very comfortable. India is not being seen in a very positive way about a statement related to the meeting between X-Tuus. In this alleged statement on Younus’s Facebook, Younus is referring to 7 states of India’s north-east states in front of China that India has no way to reach the sea. Bangladesh is the only sea guardian in that region. China is worrying for India in many ways near Bangladesh. On the one hand, India’s security concerns are associated with the Teesta River Development Project.

In view of the North East, Bangladesh’s proposal to China is also like a danger bell. In January, the Yunus government had visited a delegation of high officials of the Pakistani Army in Rangpur near the Siliguri Corridor, known as Chicken Nek of India. On the other side of this chicken neck, China is eyeing. This corridor is very important for India.

This is Yunus’s first bilatral visit. The head of Bangladesh usually comes to India on his first bilatral visit. Yunus’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam, in a conversation with The Hindu, claimed that Younus wanted to come to India before going to China. But there was no positive response from India. By the way, the attitude of India’s neighbors has changed for some time. They prefer China instead of India in Foreign visit cases. For example, in November 2023, the government in Maldives changed. Mohammad Mujju became the President to run an India out campaign there. His first foreign tour took place with Turki. He went to the UAE from the Turki and then in January 2024, he got the invitation of China. Similarly, in July 2024, KP Sharma Oli took over the Prime Minister’s chair in Nepal. They are considered more close to China anyway. But in the past, after becoming Prime Minister, he used to come to India in the first foreign tour. This has also happened in 2016 and 2018. But this time that tradition broke. India has not yet sent invitation and Oli has circled China in November 2024.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has said many times before that India wants a collaborative relationship with Bangladesh, but will have to give up his double attitude. However, despite this, Indian diplomacy will have to be stopped before taking a triangle around India.
