Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in the Assembly on Friday that it would be decided to close or continue new universities established in the state during the previous BJP government based on the findings of the report of the Cabinet sub-committee report.

He said that the cabinet sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar has been tasked to review the status of government universities in the state. The committee has not yet submitted its report to the government.

The Chief Minister said this in the assembly when BJP MLA and former Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan demanded a discussion on the issue under the adjournment motion.

Siddaramaiah said, “We are not closing seven new universities opened by him (BJP). We will not close any university. A cabinet sub-committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Minister to continue or not to continue. He has not yet reported. ”

He said, “Even before the report is submitted, he (BJP) is worried. we will not stop. To see whether universities have to continue or not, this (cabinet sub-committee) has been formed. ”

After this, many BJP MLAs including Basavangowda Patil Yatanal questioned what the Chief Minister means to say this. However, Siddaramaiah reacted to this, saying that the Cabinet Sub-Committee has not submitted the report and the matter has not yet been discussed in the cabinet.
