One person died due to electric shock on a submerged road during heavy rains in Delhi

New Delhi: A man died on Friday morning after he got electrocuted on a waterlogged road during heavy rains in the national capital. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (DDL), the company supplying power in the area, said due to a short circuit in a shop, current passed through the tin shed and metal poles of the shop and the man got electrocuted due to water outside. DDL said in a statement that the shop owner is responsible for the incident. Police said the deceased has been identified as Rajesh Kumar and he is survived by his wife and two children.

According to a police officer, the incident took place at around 7 am on Mubarakpur Road near Sheesh Mahal Enclave. Kumar was on his way to work. It is suspected that he came in contact with the electric current flowing in the water coming out of a roadside clothes shop, the officer said. He said that people present there informed the local police about the incident, after which Kumar was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and the case is being investigated.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from North-West Delhi Yogendra Chandolia visited the spot and demanded action in the case. In another accident, a 24-year-old woman travelling in an auto died after being hit by an unknown vehicle in North Delhi. Police gave this information on Friday. Police said that the deceased has been identified as Manju Devi. A senior police officer said, Wazirabad police station was informed about the accident. A team was sent to the spot in Outer Ring Road. The officer said, initial investigation has revealed that the auto was standing on the road, when an unknown vehicle hit it from behind. Due to which this accident happened. The officer said that a case has been registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code and investigation is going on.
