Pak citizens come back from India, Pakistan opened Attari-Wagah border

After India’s diplomatic pressure, Pakistan has reopened the attic border, allowing only Pakistani passport holders to enter their area. Nori (no obligation to return to India) visa holders, including Indian citizens having family relations in Pakistan, are still being asked to wait. On Friday, some vehicles with Pakistani passports and pedestrians were allowed to enter, while some Indian families were stopped at the border despite having valid documents. Two to three vehicles carrying Pakistani citizens were allowed to enter. A family, waiting for the previous day, finally crossed the border with a group of pedestrians with their belongings.

Meanwhile, an Indian woman from Shamli, whose sister is married in Pakistan, was stopped despite a valid NORI visa and necessary documents. The situation remains tense for many families waiting for approval. According to officials, 70 Pakistani citizens were stuck on Thursday after the deadline for exit from India ended a day earlier. The Attari-Wagah border, which was open till 30 April, was closed on May 1, which prevented any movement from across the border.

The Government of India issued a ‘Quit India’ notice to Pakistani citizens after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on 22 April, killing 26 people – most of which were tourists. The attack was related to terrorists associated with Pakistan. Under the new instructions, those with SAARC visas were required to leave India by 26 April. For medical visa holders, the time -limit was April 29, while 12 other visa categories – including business, journalism, film, tourism, student and pilgrimage – was 27 April for 27 April.
