Pakistan: Supreme Court will hear Imran Khan’s petitions on February 28

Islamabad. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided to hear the petitions of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail. This information was given on Tuesday in media reports. Imran Khan filed a petition to demand a judicial inquiry into the May 9 violence and the alleged rigging in the general elections held last year. According to the news of The Express Tribune newspaper, a five -member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear the petitions of Imran Khan.
Imran Khan filed a petition in December 2024 to investigate the violence of May 9. Imran Khan was arrested by paramilitary Rangers on May 9, 2023 from the Islamabad High Court premises. After this, violent protests erupted in Pakistan. Imran’s supporters vandalized several military establishments including Jinnah House (home of Lahore Corps Commander) and ISI office at Faisalabad.
Imran alleges that the incidents of May 9 were carried out by his political opponents in a planned manner. Imran Khan says that he has been implicated due to political vengeance in cases related to violence. According to the news of Geo News, Imran Khan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in March 2024 demanding the formation of a Judicial Commission to investigate the general elections held in Pakistan on February 8.
Former Prime Minister’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claims that the party won the general elections held on February 8, 2024, but stolen its mandate through a large-scale rigging. However, the government and election officials have rejected these allegations. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023. He has several cases registered and in some he has also been sentenced. He is currently lodged in Rawalpindi’s high -security Adiala Jail.
