Through this statement, Pakistan has appealed to India to fulfill its obligations of the treaty honestly. Significantly, India had announced the postponement of the Indus Water Treaty just a day after the Pakistan -backed terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The treaty took place between India and Pakistan in 1960 over the sharing of water associated with the Indus river system.

After the attack, India accelerated its strategic response to diplomatic and military fronts as well as water management levels, under which the Indus Water Treaty was suspended. India has also made it clear that it never recognized the structure of dispute resolution with Pakistan. India has also rejected the decision of the Permanent Arbitration Court, in which Pakistan’s objections were heard on the design of two hydroelectric projects.
