Why Qatar’s visit to India is important
Al-Thani’s visit to India is very important. Qatar-India relations have been relatively stable for decades. There has been a lot of improvement in recent times. It is in line with India’s policy to increase connectivity with an extended West Asian neighborhood and secure its energy security requirements. Today there is a trade of about $ 20 billion between the two countries. Qatar’s major exports to India include liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied pipe gas (LPG), chemicals, petrochemicals, plastic and aluminum. In fact, Qatar is the largest supplier of LNG to India, in 2022-2023, it had more than 48 percent of India’s LNG imports. Similarly, West Asian country is also the largest LPG supplier in India, which is 29 percent of India’s total LPG imports.
