India started ‘Operation Brahma’ on Saturday after a disastrous earthquake in Myanmar. Country Minister S. Jaishankar said that India has sent the first consignment of immediate human assistance to the people of Myanmar. C-130 aircraft is carrying blankets, tarpaulin, hygiene kits, sleeping bags, solar lamps, food packets and kitchen sets.
A day after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, rescuers are working tirelessly in the debris. The second largest city in the country and the epicenter of the earthquake are looking for the survivors in Mandalay. According to Burmese state media, over 1,000 people have been killed, while an American agency warns that the death toll could exceed 10,000. The earthquake was so powerful that its impact was felt in Bangkok, located 900 km away, causing many prestigious structures and bridges collapsing. Parts of India, including Meghalaya and Manipur, were felt intense earthquakes in Bangladesh, especially Dhaka and Chittagong, and China.
According to the horrific stories mentioned by the people who survived tomorrow’s incident, the terrible details of devastation are coming out. A surviving person from Myanmar told the BBC how he was evacuated from the rubble after the earthquake, while he was in the toilet. When he and others ran to take refuge in another building, another earthquake struck, causing that building to collapse. He said that his grandmother, aunt and uncle are still missing, he said that his possibility of escape is zero.
