Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appreciated the efforts of Indian security forces after 27 Maoists, including top CPI-Maoist leader Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavraju, in a major operation in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “We are proud of our forces for this remarkable success. Our government is committed to ending the threat of Maoism and ensuring a life of peace and progress for our people.”

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this is a major success and confirmed that security forces had killed 27 dreaded Maoists, including CPI-Maoist general secretary Basavaraju. In a post on X, he said that this is the first time in three decades of India’s fight against Naxalism that security forces have killed a general secretary level leader. Amit Shah said that Basavaraju was the backbone of the Naxalite movement.
He said that after the completion of Operation Black Forest, 54 Naxalites have been arrested in Chhattisgarh and 84 Naxalites have surrendered. Amit Shah said that the Modi government is committed to ending Naxalism before 31 March next year. He said in his X post, “This is a historic achievement in the fight to end Naxalism. Today, in an operation in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh, our security forces have piled 27 dreaded Maoists, including CPI-Maoist general secretary, top leader and Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, the top leader and the spine of Naxalite movement.”

He said, “This is the first time in the three decades of India’s fight against Naxalism that our army has neutralized the leader of a general secretary. I appreciate our brave security forces and agencies for this big success. It is also a pleasure to say that after the completion of Operation Black Forest, 54 Naxalites have been arrested and 84 Naxalites have been arrested in Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Maharashtra. The government is determined to end Naxalism before 31 March 2026. ” The encounter took place in the forest area of Abujhmad in Narayanpur. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw also confirmed this and said that the security forces are working hard to make Bastar Naxal -free by March 2026.
