'Politically motivated appeasement decision', Mayawati furious over government's decision regarding RSS

YEARS

The former CM said that it is important for government employees to work impartially in public interest and public welfare while staying within the ambit of the constitution and law, whereas the activities of the RSS, which has been banned many times, have not only been political but also electoral for a particular party.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Monday described the Centre's order to lift the ban on the participation of government employees in RSS activities as a politically motivated decision to please the organisation. She demanded immediate withdrawal of the order. She wrote on Twitter that the Centre's decision to lift the 58-year-old ban on government employees attending RSS shakhas is a politically motivated decision to appease the Sangh, beyond the national interest, so that the bitterness that had intensified between the two after the Lok Sabha elections over government policies and their arrogant attitudes etc. could be removed.

The former CM said that it is necessary for government employees to work in public interest and public welfare with impartiality within the ambit of the Constitution and law, whereas the activities of the RSS, which has been banned many times, have not only been political but also electoral for a particular party. In such a situation, this decision is unfair, it should be withdrawn immediately. The Narendra Modi-led government issued an order last week, removing the ban on the participation of government officials in the activities of the RSS. Politics has intensified over this decision of the government. The opposition is criticizing this move of the government. BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya also shared a screenshot of the order and said that an “unconstitutional” directive issued 58 years ago has been withdrawn by the Modi government.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary (communication) Jairam Ramesh shared an office memorandum dated July 9 issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions regarding the involvement of government employees in RSS activities. He quipped that what was happening by breaking the law has now become routine as tensions between the G2 and the RSS have increased. He said that after June 4, 2024, the relationship between the self-anointed non-organic Prime Minister and the RSS has deteriorated. On July 9, 2024, the 58-year ban was lifted, which was in place even during Vajpayee's tenure as Prime Minister.
