Birth and family
Raj Thackeray was born on 14 June 1968 in Mumbai. His father’s name was Srikanth Thackeray and mother’s name was Kunda Thackeray. Raj Thackeray’s real name is Swarraj Srikanth Thackeray. He is an Indian politician by profession. However, Raj Thackeray started his political journey in the year 2006.
Raj Thackeray did his schooling from Bal Mohan Vidya Mandir. At the same time, he completed his studies in Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art Graduation. After graduation, he started working as a cartoonist in the weekly magazine ‘Marmik’. Apart from this, Raj Thackeray also learned to play tabla, guitar and violin.
Political journey
Raj Thackeray started his political journey with Shiv Sena’s student wing ‘Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena’. Raj Thackeray emerged prominently at the time of campaigning for Maharashtra assembly elections in 1990. In the 1990s, Raj Thackeray considered himself as the successor of uncle Balsaheb Thackeray. But Balasaheb chose his son Uddhav Thackeray as his successor. Raj Thackeray remained in the Shiv Sena for many years and he resigned in 2005 due to the party being a sideline. On 09 March 2006, Raj Thackeray formed a new party as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
