Rajouri terror attack: A major terror attack on an Army post in a remote village in Rajouri was foiled after suspected terrorists opened fire on a security post in the early hours of Monday. According to reports, suspected terrorists opened fire on an Army company in the village in Gunda area of Rajouri district at around 3 am, and the security personnel retaliated.
After a brief exchange of fire, security forces cordoned off the area and a search operation is underway. The Indian Army, along with the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) unit of Romeo Force, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are conducting a search operation after the attack on a newly established camp. The camp was targeted by militants, following which a joint security operation was launched to trace and neutralise the threat.
Terrorist killed, one soldier injured
According to sources, a soldier has been seriously injured in the attack on the army camp. According to sources, one terrorist was killed, while a local resident was reported injured. At around 3:10 am today, terrorists attacked the newly built army camp at Gunda Khawas in Jammu and Kashmir's border district Rajouri. The firing took place near the residence of Shaurya Chakra winner and Village Defence Committee (VDC) member Purushottam Kumar, who was recently honoured by the President after killing a terrorist in Kalakote. The army camp was set up near his house for security reasons.
According to sources, after Purushottam Kumar was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, security agencies received inputs that there could be a terrorist attack on Purushottam Kumar. Earlier, the army had set up a temporary checkpoint near Purushottam Kumar's house and Purushottam Kumar was taken to an unknown location. Kumar's father was injured in the terrorist attack and has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The army has cordoned off the entire area and started a search operation. Three to four terrorists are likely to be involved in the attack. More information is awaited.
Army increases deployment of troops in Jammu region
Amid a series of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has increased the deployment of troops in the Jammu region to strengthen security and counter any other threat. The deployment of troops has been increased in Doda, Badarwah and Kishtwar including Kathua, Samba, Kathua. Apart from this, more troops have been sent from the Western Command.
There has also been a change in inter-command. This is the first time since the Chinese confrontation (April 2020) that such a major change has been made in the deployment of troops in the area to eliminate terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a spurt in terror attacks in the past month and a half, with several security personnel killed in action. On June 9, nine civilians were also killed in a terror attack in Reasi.
