In response, he probably addressed him with a general word “brother”, which disrupted the House for 13 minutes and there was a sharp tinge between the ruling BJP and AAP. This comment soon increased tension. The AAP MLAs staged a protest seeking clarification for this comment.
There was a huge uproar after PWD Minister Pravesh Verma commented on Atishi, the Leader of the Opposition during the Question Hour on the fourth day of the budget session of the Delhi Assembly. Verma was answering a question on the government’s pilgrimage plans and financial assistance for religious visits. But then Atishi interrupted him. In response, he probably addressed him with a general word “brother”, which disrupted the House for 13 minutes and there was a sharp tinge between the ruling BJP and AAP. This comment soon increased tension. The AAP MLAs staged a protest seeking clarification for this comment.
Verma defended himself and questioned what I said? How can it be wrong to say ‘brother’? He further clarified amidst constant debate with AAP MLAs, Atishi ji is my sister, not brother. Despite Verma’s explanation, the opposition AAP members were angry and former Chief Minister Atishi stood up to oppose the comment. As soon as the minister tried to resume his speech, Atishi and other AAP MLAs continued to protest. After repeated failed attempts to resume his speech, Verma, who looks desperate, said, where have you brought brother? Atishi said that the language used by Verma was unparliamentary and once again stood in protest. Other AAP MLAs also supported Verma, accusing him of indecency.
Speaker Vijendra Gupta intervened and asked the AAP members to identify the objectionable word and said that “brother” is not objectionable. He said that I do not understand this issue. On continuing the uproar, Speaker Gupta expelled two AAP MLAs Special Ravi and Kuldeep Kumar from the House. Later MLA Mukesh Ahlawat was also suspended. However, Ravi and Kumar’s suspension was canceled following the request of the AAP delegation.
