For the first time since 2020, Russia has openly called for a revival of Russia-India-China (RIC) tripartite format. Speaking at a security conference in Eurasia in Parm city on 29 May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov said that the time has come to resume RIC meetings. He said that in his view, India and China have reached an understanding on reducing border tension. Lavarov said that I want to confirm Moscow’s real interest in resumption of work within the format of Russia-India-China.

What is RIC?
The RIC Group’s proposal was first placed by former Prime Minister of Russia Yavgani Prima Kov as part of Moscow’s approach to the multi -polar world system. Over the years, it has been held more than 20 times at various levels, in which three Asian powers have been brought together to promote negotiations on various issues. However, there was a rapid decline in India-China relations after the Galwan conflict, after which the platform became effectively inactive.

Lavarov is going to visit India in June
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarovagle may come to India. According to sources in the Russian Embassy, the journey may take place in late June. However, no date has been revealed yet. It is believed that the purpose of this visit of Russian Foreign Minister is the proposed visit to India this year by President Vladimir Putin. Groundwork has to be prepared in view of Putin has to come to India this year for the annual summit of India and Russia. On March 27, Lavarov had said that preparations for President Putin’s visit to India are going on. He had said that President Putin has accepted the invitation from PM Modi to come to India. In such a situation, work is going on on preparations for President Putin’s visit to India. The 2021 suit Putin will visit India for the first time.
Putin came out after struggle with Ukraine
India always distanced a distance from the proposals in international forums over the conflict between Ukraine and Russia that advocated strictly on Russia. The Russian President has visited very few countries since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In a case related to war, in 2023, the International Criminal Court issued a warrant against Putin.
