Sanjeev Goenka, owner of IPL team Lucknow Super Giants, has bought his big stoke in the Manchester Originals franchise in The Hundred Tournament. Although the price has not been disclosed, but according to reports, the deal has been done in more than 100 million.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, Sanjeev Goenka has bought this team for 107 million GBP i.e. about 11 and a half billion rupees. The value is half compared to the London Spirit Team, which was sold to a Union of Tech billionaires in America in 195 million GBP. Goenka also bid for the Lord’s position franchise before giving up. However, now he has 49 percent of Manchester Originals.
Initially it was not clear who the other contenders were, but the value was revealed through the e-auction, it is clear that there were more than two rival in the race. According to an estimate, the Glazer family associated with Manchester United may have been one of the candidates with CVC Capital, but it was not clear that none of them were in the race.
However, it has been said that the IPL team was competing with Sanjeev Goenka to buy Manchest Originals and another technology association was showing equal interest. However, Goenka won the race by defeating an IPL team. The officials are silent on which teams of IPL were participating in it. Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders were earlier keen on it, but later retreated. Whether or not any of these have joined this race again, it is yet to be ascertained.
