The field for assembly elections in Delhi is completely prepared. Aam Aadmi Party is trying to form its government for the third consecutive time. At the same time, BJP and Congress have also fully geared up for this election. The voters of Shakur Basti assembly constituency here have played an important role in forming the government most of the times. During the seven assembly elections held from 1993 to 2020, six times the candidate of the same party that has formed the government in Delhi has won from here.
Satyendra Jain has been elected MLA from Aam Aadmi Party for the last three consecutive times and has also been a minister in the government. Jain’s arrest is likely to be the main issue in this election. While being a minister, he was arrested on corruption charges and remained in jail for a long time. This area is in existence since the year 1993. In the seven elections held so far, Aam Aadmi Party has won from here at most three times. It managed to win in the last three elections, whereas BJP and Congress have won twice each.
BJP was the first to win in Shakur Basti assembly constituency. The people of this region did not help form the government only in 2008. Then Congress government was formed in Delhi and BJP won the elections from this region. The issue of government formation has dominated every election here. Whereas this time the issue of arrest of Satyendar Jain is likely to remain. This matter will be raised not only by BJP and Congress but also by Aam Aadmi Party. The special thing is that Aam Aadmi Party has once again given ticket to Satyendar Jain from here.
An attempt can be made by BJP and Congress to corner the Aam Aadmi Party by putting forward the reason for Satyendar Jain’s arrest. While both these parties had made his arrest an issue during the MCD and Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party will try to woo voters by raising the issue of his arrest in a fake case and accusing the BJP of misusing investigative agencies.
