Mumbai . Shiv Sena (Ubatha) leader Sanjay Raut said that his party will present the claim for the post of Leader of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He argued that in the past the post was given to opposition parties, while at that time he did not win 10 percent seats. Raut said that the total number of members of opposition parties in the 288 -member state assembly is around 50. The budget session of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will be held from March 3 to 26.
Raut claimed, “The Shiv Sena (Ubatha) will claim the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. Even though the number of MLAs is low, there is no law or provision in the constitution that the House should work without the Leader of the Opposition. Shiv Sena (Ubatha) has 20 MLAs. “Recently, Congress leaders said that if Shiv Sena claims for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, it will demand the same post in the Legislative Council. Currently, Shiv Sena’s Ambadas Danve is the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council but his term as an MLC will end in August this year.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance includes Uddhav Thackeray -led Shiv Sena (Ubatha), Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) and Congress. Shiv Sena (Ubatha) has 20 MLAs in the assembly, while Congress has 16 members and NCP (SP). Raut said, “Hopefully, the speaker leader will accept our demand to get the post of opposition.”
Asked why no top leader of Shiv Sena (Ubatha) went to Prayagraj Mahakumbh, Raut said that the party followed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat in the matter. The Rajya Sabha member said, “I did not see Mohan Bhagwat going to Mahakumbh and taking a dip in the Ganges river. We were waiting to go to him (Bhagwat) Mahakumbh and we would also follow him. No senior RSS official went to Mahakumbh. We had a plan to go there, but we did not see any of them going there. ”Uddhav Thackeray was attacked by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the ruling Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde for not going to Mahakumbh.
