Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appeared to be almost ready to slap an additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) during a public event in Belagavi, after which he came to the center of the new controversy. A video of the incident was made and it was widely broadcast, in which Siddaramaiah is seen raising his hand after calling ASP Narayan Bharmani on stage. The alleged collision was allegedly stems near the place where Siddaramaiah was to address the public.
BJP’s women activists were protesting close to the site, and the ASP Bharmani was appointed to manage security around the stage. Unhappy with dealing with the situation, Siddaramaiah called Bharmani on stage and publicly reprimanded him and asked him, whatever you come here, what were you doing? In a moment of frustration, the Chief Minister raised his hand as if he wanted to kill the officer, but stopped in the middle. The incident has been severely criticized by political opponents. The Janata Dal (Secular) condemned Siddaramaiah’s works and accused him of ego and disrespect. In a post written in a strong word, JDS said that it is an unforgettable crime to raise his hand on a government official and address him in derogatory tone.
The party further said that the term of a Chief Minister is five years, while a government official serves the public for decades. The party emphasized that power is never permanent for anyone. The controversy came immediately after Siddaramaiah’s remarks that attracted the national attention.
,@siddaramaiah You have the head of power.
Lifting hands to the District Superintendent of Police does not make you feel good for your position and dignity.
If you are the chief minister, you have tried to hit the SP (SP) in a public platform as a street rowdy… pic.twitter.com/GXeZbtk73t
