Madras High Court directed formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Anna University sexual harassment case. The SIT, comprising women IPS officers Sneha Priya, Ayman Jamal and Brinda, will also investigate the leaking of the First Information Report (FIR), which led to the disclosure of the victim’s identity. A bench of Justices SM Subramaniam and V Lakshminarayana ordered the formation of the SIT, which included three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, after highlighting various lapses in the ongoing investigation.

The court termed it unfortunate that the victim had to be embarrassed due to the leaking of the FIR. The bench said that this has caused him more mental pain. It is the duty of the state and society to protect women, the bench stressed, adding that it took serious note of the manner in which the FIR was written.
