Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Disanayake on Saturday assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his country would not allow his land to be used in adverse ways of India’s security interests. In order to develop Sri Lanka’s economy, Chinese investment and infrastructure projects have created many concerns ranging from sovereignty and safety issues.

Prime Minister Modi arrived at Colombo in Sri Lanka on Friday evening where he was warmly welcomed and welcomed him by the top five Sri Lankan ministers at Bhandaranayak International Airport, including External Affairs Minister Vijita Herath, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatisa and Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrashekhar. Disanayake said that I confirmed Sri Lanka’s attitude that it would not allow its territory to be used in any way for India’s security and regional stability.

He said that I requested Prime Minister Modi’s intervention in organizing bilateral technical discussions related to Sri Lankan claims before the United Nations Commission on the boundaries of the continental shelf to establish the external borders of the continental shelf beyond the special economic sector. He said that Sri Lanka recognizes the importance of developing a digital economy to promote development, innovation and efficiency. Taking forward this policy initiative, Prime Minister Modi and I discussed possible cooperation in digitization in many areas. I thank the Government of India for a financial grant of Rs 300 crore for implementing Sri Lanka’s unique digital identity project.
