Senior JD (U) leader Mohammad Qasim Ansari resigned from the party and all his positions over the party’s stand on the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Waqf Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha late at night, in which NDA’s ally JD (U) supported it despite widespread opposition. In a letter to JDU President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Ansari expressed deep disappointment over the party’s support for the Waqf Amendment Bill. Ansari criticized JDU leader Lalan Singh’s speech in the Lok Sabha, calling the bill a violation of anti -Muslim and constitutional rights. He also described it as discriminatory against Pasmanda Muslim community. In his letter to Kumar, he said that millions of Indian Muslims like us had unwavering faith in you as the flag bearer of a true secular ideology. However, this confidence is now broken. The stance adopted by JDU on Waqf Bill Amendment Act 2024 has deeply shocked millions of dedicated Indian Muslims and workers. We are very disappointed with the way Lalan Singh gave his speech and supported this bill in the Lok Sabha.
Regreting his years of service for the party, he announced the resignation of the party’s primary membership and all other responsibilities. He said, “The Waqf Bill is against Indian Muslims and we cannot accept it under any circumstances. This bill violates many fundamental rights contained in the Constitution. It humiliates Indian Muslims as well as discrimination with the Pasmanda community. Neither you nor your party feel. Resigning from membership and all other responsibilities. “
JDU minority state secretary Mohammad Shahnawaz Malik has also resigned from the party to protest the Waqf Bill. Malik, a resident of Jamui, announced his resignation on social media. In a letter to CM Nitish Kumar, he said that the Muslims of the state have lost their trust in him. Malik also expressed dissatisfaction with Lalan Singh’s statement in the Lok Sabha and JDU’s stand on the bill.
