A school teacher dismissed in West Bengal has died due to stroke due to the SSC recruitment scam, causing resentment among the protesters. Prabir Karmakar, a former English teacher, was one of those who lost their jobs after canceling 25,753 school appointments made through West Bengal School Services Commission (WBSSC) in 2016. Karmakar used to teach at Amuipara Udbastu Vidyapeeth in Murshidabad. He died late Wednesday at his residence in Raghunathganj.

The protesters said that Karmakar was struggling with kidney problems and was in serious mental crisis after leaving the job. He claimed that he died due to anxiety and an uncertain future about his treatment.
The protesting teachers alleged that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have completely ignored him despite several weeks of performance. The qualified teacher education rights forum, who is leading the demonstrations demanding the restoration of qualified teachers, issued a statement and blamed the way the state government’s way of dealing with the issue of Karmakar. Amid growing stress, the state government on Friday officially published a gazette notification to start a new phase of SSC exam, which led to the process of new teacher recruitment. The protesting Chinmay Mandal said that the Chief Minister’s recent suggestion to re -examine the dismissed teachers was unable to deal with the tension arising due to the cancellation of the appointment panel and the ongoing political inducement, which has already increased the emotional burden, which many people were already facing.

Earlier, about 50 unemployed teachers were detained at two places when they were going to West Bengal State Secretariat to protest. The group had gathered to demand permanent restoration of eligible teachers, and was opposing the state’s instruction to take the recruitment examination again. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the West Bengal government of destroying the state’s education system and cheating thousands. In response, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Center of hypocrisy and alleged that corruption is more prevalent in BJP ruled states.
