Describing consent and disagreement as the strength of democracy, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Saturday that the deadlock employed in the assemblies and Parliament is not appropriate for democratic values.
Birla said this while addressing the public representatives at the initial program of the Constitution Club of Rajasthan here. He said that consent and disagreement is the power of democracy, but the planned deadlock in the assemblies and Parliament is not right for democratic values, legislative institutions will have to become the center of discussion and dialogue to ensure accountability towards the public.
Birla said that the Constitution of India is not only a compilation of laws, but is a guide to the whole world. In the last 75 years, we have seen many changes under the guidance of the Constitution.
He said that there should be meaningful dialogue and healthy debate in Parliament and Legislative Assembly, personal allegations and intentional deadlocks are against the basic spirit of democracy.
The Lok Sabha Speaker hoped that this Constitution will become a platform of meaningful discourse and consent between the Club side-opposition. Birla said that it is not just a building, but a platform for democratic discourse, thoughtfulness and policy-making.
Democracy is not only limited to elections, but moves beyond sustainable dialogue and consent. This club will take policy-making and good governance to new heights.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said that the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has always been a guide, many bills passed here have become examples for the whole country.Referring to former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and current Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, he said that the land of Rajasthan has always enriched democratic traditions.
According to the statement, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that the history of women of Rajasthan has been glorious. He appreciated the strong leadership given by the women of the state as MLA, minister and Chief Minister and said that this has led to a positive change in the state. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
