The Supreme Court administration on Saturday said that after taking cognizance of the application received from the bar organizations, the entire court has decided to remove the glass panel in front of the court room number one to five.
The Supreme Court administration said in a statement that the full court has noticed the memorandum received from the ‘Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA)’ and ‘Supreme Court Advocates-on-Cord Association (SCAORA) to remove the glass panel.
The statement said, “After carefully considering various issues, including the original grandeur, visibility, aesthetics and concerns related to access to the court room, the entire court decided to remove the glass panel.”
In December last year, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) requested the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna to remove the mirror panel for air conditioning and restore the original form of the Supreme Court corridors to preserve its historical importance.
In a letter to the then Chief Justice, the SCBA had said that due to the glass panel installed for air conditioning, the space in the corridor has reduced considerably, due to which the members of the bar, registered clerks, trainees and litigants have difficulty in commuting.
The letter said, “We request to remove the glass panel and restore the corridor in the original form to preserve the historical significance of the Supreme Court.
